GIS Inventory using Ramona
Jim Giglierano lead the discussion with information about the State Geocoding Project and local government innovation fund. There was an item in the Clearinghouse budget for $2000 to start a GIS inventory of counties and cities using Ramona as the collection method. Jim asked that this be taken out as future projects will probably take care of this. Patrick Wilke-Brown explained the process of the relationship between Ramona and the Clearinghouse. That path would be inventory GIS data and assets in Ramona –> Identify data that needs metadata development –> Metadata workshop –> Publish metadata to Clearinghouse (http://www.iowagis.org). A short discussion lead by Brad Cutler described comparing and contrasting Ramona (inventory) and the Iowa Geospatial Data Clearinghouse(metadata, data discovery and repository).
Building Clearinghouse Support and Partnerships
Short discussion about ICIT Repository project and how the IGIC and the Iowa Geospatial Data Clearinghouse. Data owners and stewards store their data on the ICIT repository and encouraged to create metadata using current CSDGM. This fits into the flow described in the previous section. Metadata workshops will be scheduled later this year. Other relationships suggested were state agencies and utility board.
Clearinghouse Charter
Suggestions were made to clarify portions of the Clearinghouse Committee Charter. Patrick Wilke-Brown will make changes and post them to the IGIC website. Link to follow.
Clearinghouse Committee Budget
Budget was finalized. Ramona inventory was removed from budget. Final budget to be posted.
IGIC Website Updates
The IGIC website was recently updated to Plone 3.1. Many enhancements. Google Analytics were added. The Resource Guide was brought up. There has been little activity in this area of the website, we will look at stats to see how much traffic is looking at this area. Suggestion to remove it from the site.
Other items
Patrick Wilke-Brown will be attending the MAGIC States Clearinghouse Administrators meeting in Columbia, MO October 21, 2008.
Meeting adjourned 11:30 am.
